What to do if an employee is infected?
If your workplace has been exposed to Coronavirus (COVID-19) conveying a calm and clear message will minimize any sense of panic, provide reassurance, and hopefully a minimal disruption to operations. We believe transparency is key when addressing workplace health and safety that can affect everyone. Employees may wonder how they are being protected from Coronavirus (COVID-19). We recommend that you inform all employees and on-site personnel that you are using a proactive approach, taking important steps to disinfect any common areas as well as personally occupied areas.
To protect the privacy of employees, please DO NOT disclose the identity(s) of individuals that have received positive test results. We will confidentially work with you to develop a site-specific plan, including an extensive overall cleaning and disinfection of your entire building.
Separate sick employees:
- Employees who appear to have symptoms upon arrival at work or who become sick during the day should immediately be separated from other employees, customers, and visitors, and sent home.
- Have a procedure in place for the safe transport of an employee who becomes sick while at work. The employee may need to be transported home or to a healthcare provider.
How to take action if an employee is suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 infection
In most cases, you will not need to shut down your workplace. Our timed cleaning can provide quick and confidential disinfection services to ensure you remain up. If it has been less than 7 days since the sick employee has been in the facility, close off any areas used for prolonged periods of time by the sick person:
- Wait 24 hours before cleaning and disinfecting to minimize potential for other employees being exposed to respiratory droplets. If waiting 24 hours is not feasible, wait as long as possible.
- If possible open outside doors and windows to increase air circulation in these areas.
Please remember if it has been 7 days or more since the sick employee used the facility, additional cleaning and disinfection may still be necessary.
